AMANDLA SAFE HUB

SOCIAL COMMITMENT WITH PASSION FOR FOOTBALL

AMANDLA Safe Hub is a social project that creates physical and emotional retreats for young people at several locations around the world by means of various offerings related to soccer.

For the new Safe Hub project in Berlin-Wedding, AMANDLA now commissioned Benz & Ziegler to design a sports facility that includes a large new building on the corner of Schulstraße and Ruheplatzstraße. The building is formed from two interlocking elements that incorporate Safe Hub’s symbol – two interlocking hands. The glass and semi-transparent wooden facades represent transparency and the openness of the project as a meeting place for all soccer enthusiasts.

ARCHITECTURE OPENS DIALOGUE BETWEEN YOUNG PEOPLE AND THE CITY DISTRICT

Functionally, the building is divided into three areas: On the first floor level, community spaces are created for sports activities, art projects and an educational café, which are accessible to the entire urban neighborhood. On the upper floor, a semi-public area offers socially disadvantaged children spaces for education and workshops as well as for sports and recreation. The top two floors provide offices for the administration of Amandla as well as another socially engaged institution.

The project is supported by the Oliver Kahn Foundation.
