SHOWROOM SCHÖNMETZ

Schwabmünchen, Germany 2018

MULTIFUNCTIONAL CONCEPT OF BRAND ARCHITECTURE, EXHIBITION DESIGN AND OFFICE SPACE

The company headquarters for Schönmetz, a plumbing and heating contractor, must combine many functionalities under one roof. In addition to office space and storage areas, representative rooms are necessary to convey the products in an emotional and informative way.

The planning of the building was not only about a concept for multiple use, a major concern was to show that industrial buildings can be attractive for the community and for the city – and at the same time economically presentable. With three essential functions under one roof, the company headquarters is made up of three building sections: a factory and warehouse with approx. 750 m², an exhibition area with approx. 450 m² and office and recreation areas with approx. 500 m².

ARCHITECTURE AND INTERIOR DESIGN

In order to create an extraordinary architecture, both in terms of distance and external appearance, as well as in terms of the spatial experience inside, the hall construction undergoes a creative intervention with an enormous effect: The building is ripped open in a displaced manner. In this way, the volume of the building is given an entrance on the front and on the back. While one of the entrances is “pulled” into the building, the entrance to the exhibition at the back is “pulled” out again. The displacement of the entrances leads to a displacement of the axis.

COLOR CODING AND ROUTING

The concept for the axis-shifted hall construction is complemented by a very playful use of the colors yellow and blue of the logo and corporate CI. It provides zoning and division of the three building areas, each with its own entrance areas in blue and yellow.

In the long-distance effect, the colors carry Schönmetz’s corporate identity to the outside world in a way that is widely recognizable. At the same time, the CI colors set accents that structure the facade and lend the building a discreet signal effect. The architectural gesture harmoniously integrates the building into its surroundings. In the close-up effect, the color concept becomes an intuitive wayfinding system. It guides both customers and employees through the building. At the same time, the color coding defines and delimits the individual areas in a friendly manner.

SPACE, DRAMATURGY AND COMMUNICATION

The large display window offers the first view into the exhibition – and radiates outwards as a large highlight area. The exhibition elements grow in a spatial dramaturgy from the display window inwards to offer a free and deep insight into the exhibition. Like a museum exhibition, the products are presented in different experience spaces.
